hokou is a walking companion app. There are no accounts, no login, no backend database, and no advertising tracking.

Data We Access

• Apple Health data: With your permission, hokou reads your step count and walking/running distance from Apple Health.
• Location while tracking a walk: If you start a walk route, hokou uses location while the app is open to draw your private route, pace, and distance.
• Local preferences: hokou stores your companion choice, optional companion name, daily goal, onboarding status, mood journal, reached milestones, and a device-local identifier used for subscription/paywall status.

How We Use Data

• To show your daily steps, distance, streaks, progress, and companion mood.
• To display your mood journal and app preferences on your device.
• To manage paywall and subscription access through Superwall and Apple's StoreKit.

Storage

Step and distance data remain in Apple Health. hokou derives stats from Apple Health at runtime and does not store step history on a server. Local preferences are stored on your device with AsyncStorage.

Sharing

We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising tracking. Health data is not shared with advertisers or data brokers.

Third-Party Services

• Apple HealthKit: Provides read-only step and distance data after you grant permission.
• Apple StoreKit: Handles subscription purchases and restoration through your Apple ID.
• Superwall: Presents subscription screens and helps determine subscription access.

Your Choices

• You can revoke HealthKit access in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Health.
• You can revoke location access in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services.
• You can delete local hokou preferences by deleting the app from your device.

Children's Privacy

hokou is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
